European removals
From LutonRemovals from Luton to Portugal
Moving to Portugal from the UK? We run removals from Luton to Lisbon and the Estoril coast, the Algarve, Porto and the Silver Coast — the longest of our regular routes, packed for the road and cleared through customs the post-Brexit way.
Portugal has become one of the most popular places for people to start again — the climate, the coast, the welcome and the sense of a gentler pace. We move families relocating for good, retirees settling on the Algarve, and couples splitting their year between Luton and a place in the sun. It is the furthest we regularly drive in Europe, and we treat it with the planning that distance deserves.
On the Portugal route
What's covered on a Luton-to-Portugal move
-
The long haul, run with care
The far south-west corner of Europe is our longest regular route. We plan it thoroughly so your belongings travel safely and arrive together.
-
Export wrap for the distance
Furniture padded, fragile items double-boxed and the load braced for a very long road journey — protection built for the miles, not a short hop.
-
Portuguese customs paperwork
Declarations and the valued inventory prepared with you, with Transfer of Residence relief applied for where you qualify.
-
Part-load or dedicated van
Share a vehicle already heading to Portugal, or take a van of your own for a direct door-to-door run. We advise on which suits your move.
-
Delivery to your Portuguese address
Carried in, furniture rebuilt and boxes placed room by room — whether it is a Lisbon flat or a villa in the Algarve.
The route
The long way south-west
We load in Luton and join the M1 at Junction 10 or 11, round the M25 and head for the Channel. From the crossing it is south through France, then across or around Spain and over the border into Portugal for the final leg to your new home. It is a big drive, so we keep you posted as your belongings travel.
The regions we deliver to most:
- Lisbon & the Estoril coast — the capital and the coastal towns just west of it, with city access planned in.
- The Algarve — Faro, Lagos and the southern coast, our busiest Portugal destination.
- Porto & the north — the second city and the Douro region beyond it.
- The Silver Coast — the stretch between Lisbon and Porto, popular with those after somewhere quieter.
Since Brexit
Customs on a Portugal move
Bringing household goods into Portugal changed after Brexit, and it is only fair to be clear about it. Your move now needs a customs declaration and a detailed, valued inventory of everything you are taking. If Portugal is becoming your main home and you meet the conditions, Transfer of Residence relief usually means your used belongings come in without duty.
We prepare the declarations and the inventory with you, and apply for the relief where you qualify — so the border is a formality, not a hold-up. Most Portugal moves start from Luton, but we collect from across the wider area and the rest of the UK too; just tell us where the pickup is.
Luton to Portugal
Common questions
What is the route for moving to Portugal from the UK?
It is the longest of our regular European runs. We load in Luton, cross the Channel, drive south through France, then across or around Spain and into Portugal for the final leg. Because it is a long haul, your written quote will include an estimated window, and we keep you updated as the move travels.
Do you cover the Algarve as well as Lisbon and Porto?
We do. The Algarve — Faro, Lagos and the towns along the coast — is one of our most popular Portugal destinations, alongside Lisbon and the Estoril coast, Porto and the north, and the Silver Coast in between. Wherever you are settling, we route to it.
What paperwork do I need to bring my belongings into Portugal?
Since Brexit a move to Portugal needs a customs declaration and a detailed, valued inventory of your goods. If Portugal is becoming your main home and you meet the conditions, Transfer of Residence relief usually lets your used household belongings in without duty. We prepare all of it with you so nothing is missed.
Is a part load worth it for a move to Portugal?
Often, yes. On a run this long, sharing a vehicle already Portugal-bound keeps the cost sensible for a smaller move — a downsize, an apartment or a holiday home. A full household is usually better suited to a dedicated van, and we will give you an honest steer on which fits.
